The HTC One M9 is a close copy of the previous HTC One’s that have come out. It performs well with its Snapdragon 810 chipset and the new HTC One M9 has a much sleeker design than its predecessors with a new curved edge making it feel more like a premium model phone.
The hardware has stayed pretty much the same as the older version of the phone, the HTC One M8. The software has been upgraded and is more user friendly. Here is how it breaks down.
The phone boast the Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 810 with a 2.0GHz quad-core processor with another 1.5GHz quad-cored unit. It has 3GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.
The Duo Camera UltraPixel has been replaced with a more traditional 20-megapixal camera. This doesn’t affect the weight a how the phone feels when handling it, but we didn’t see much difference in picture quality.
The HTC One M9 is equipped with the Nano SIM and Micro SD card slot in the same place as the previous versions of the phone. The Nano SIM card is on the right side of the phone and the Micro SD card is on the left side. The Micro SD card slot can handle cards with up to 2TB!
The volume control has been changed to two buttons and the sleep/awake with it new spiral pattern is convenient to have so you know what key your touching without looking at it.
We found the display a little disappointing. HTC didn’t use the Quad HD screen like its competitors, instead they chose the 5-inch 1080p screen. This screen does not look as clear as the previous models and we also found the colors not as vivid as the M8’s.
For the 3rd year running the BoomSound speakers are back. The dual speaker set up is great but the sound of the speakers this year we found disappointing. They were not as loud as M8’s speaker system was.
The old Sense software is gone and the new Sense 7 is in. Your app launcher is customizable and is set up vertically. HTC One M9 has a new sense home widget that you set up with the apps that you use when your home and the apps that you as work. We had our doubts about the widget but it really works well with drop and drag technology it is easy to set and it does a good job of remembering which apps you use were. It does take a little while for your choices to stick. The auto correct feature of this phone has a long way to go before it is in any way helpful.
There is a 20-megapixed camera in the back of the phone. We found that it didn’t take very good pictures and looked worse that the last year’s version of the phone.
The UltraPixel camera in the front works how you would expect it to. It has a wide lens that easily fits family into the picture. It excels in darker environments.
The HTC’s Camera app is much more in-depth than some of its top competitors. You can do everything with it that you could do on the M8. There are a few new things that you can do on this year’s model such as double exposure and Prismatic features.
We think that this phone has the durability and the power to complete anything you can put it though. It has power and speed which we liked but was lacking in the sound system as well as the camera area. Overall it is a good phone and we would recommend it to anyone.
