There is no question that the Samsung Galaxy S5 looks good and performs well. It delivers speed, power and an excellent camera not to mention it is waterproof up to 3 feet. It is only a small upgrade to the Galaxy S4.
The Galaxy S5 has a 2.5GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32 GB of memory of internal storage and up to 128GB with the use of the micro SD card. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS.
The display on the Galaxy S5 is a 5.1-inch 1080p HD display that is .1-inch larger than the S4. The screen has an exceptionally clear picture.
The exterior of the phone is plastic and therefore it a bit of a disappointment for the consumer that likes how the Galaxy performs but was waiting for the quality feel you get with the HTC One phones.
We did like that they Galaxy S5 has the removable SD card as well as a removable battery. It also has a new USB housing on the bottom of the phone. You can still use your old USB chargers but it now has a USB 3.0 port like that on the Galaxy Note 3 that charges the phone exceptionally fast.
The S5 has a few new features such as the fingerprint scanner which we weren’t so impressed with. It seems to be more trouble using it than it is worth. It also has a new heart rate monitor that is cleverly integrated into the camera flash module. Both of which we could do without.
This phone does have an improved camera. Samsung has increased the camera from the 13 megapixel that was in the Galaxy S4 to a 16 megapixel that is in the S5. The new camera is quicker, images are clearer. The camera has a continuous autofocus that claims to the .3 of a second fast. This enables you to have a greater chance of getting that action shot. Video is 1080p HD resolution. It is also equipped with Ultra HD otherwise known as 4K video. You must go into the settings to turn this on.
At the end of the day the Galaxy S5 has lightning speed as well as one of the best cameras on the market. The display has excellent picture quality and color. We were disappointed with the quality of the speakers. They don’t sound anywhere near as good as the HTC One’s speakers. We like that this model of the Galaxy phones is waterproof. Many consumers were waiting this. The Galaxy S5 is no doubt a great phone but I am not sure that Samsung made it cost effective enough to compete with its competition. It is somewhat pricey. It is a great phone if you can afford to put out the extra money.
